CERAMICS & POTTERY · CHINA

A China DMC for ceramics and pottery groups.

THE WORKING PREMISE

A ceramics journey starts with what the group expects to see, make and take home.

YINYU is a Chongqing-based China DMC, operating private ground arrangements across China with our deepest expertise in Southwest China. This page is for specialist tour operators, studio communities, museum and craft groups, and travel advisors planning ceramics or pottery programmes. We research the route, coordinate the confirmed hosts and hold the local logistics. Trade briefs can be priced at NET B2B rates and delivered white-label by agreement, with the advisor relationship protected. A named studio, practitioner, kiln or institution enters the working itinerary only after the host confirms the visit.

KILN TIME CHANGES THE ITINERARY

Decide what “make a piece” means before a studio day is booked.

Greenware, bisqueware and a glazed finished piece are three different promises. Drying, firing and cooling do not fit neatly between lunch and the next train, so the expected outcome has to be settled while the route is still flexible.

01

Greenware

A newly made piece is fragile and still changing. If it will stay with the host for later work, the handover and identification method need to be clear.

02

Bisque or glaze

Using a prepared bisqued form can make glazing possible within a short visit, but only if the studio offers it and the group understands what is and is not their own making process.

03

Finished piece

If participants expect to carry a completed work home, firing availability, cooling time, collection, packing and luggage limits must be resolved before the workshop is sold.

04

Studio pace

A working studio may need a smaller group, split sessions or a quieter demonstration. We do not promise access or teaching format until the host agrees.

FROM MUSEUM CASE TO KILN

We connect looking, making and moving without pretending they run on the same clock.

01

Museum before studio — or the reverse

A museum can establish vocabulary before a workshop; a studio visit can make a later collection legible. We choose the sequence for the group’s purpose, not because one order is standard.

02

Hosts approached with a real brief

Potential museums, heritage sites, working studios, kilns, practitioners and interpreters are approached with the group size, skill level, intended activity and dates.

03

A day that respects studio rhythm

Arrival time, demonstration length, clean-up, meals, photography, translation and the host’s production work all affect how long a visit can honestly hold.

04

The ordinary ground layer

Hotels, private vehicles, drivers, guides, rail, transfers, tickets, meals and luggage still have to work around the specialist timetable.

05

Geography with a reason

Jingdezhen and other confirmed ceramic centres can connect with wider China when the transfer earns its place in the material story and the group has enough time.

06

One local operating contact

The agreed partner or group leader has one China-side contact following the confirmed ground plan and communicating changes.

WHO COMES TO US

Built for buyers who already know why the material matters.

01

Specialist tour operators

For operators building ceramics, craft, design or cultural field programmes for an established audience.

02

Studios, associations and museums

For pottery communities, curators and member groups seeking process, history and contemporary practice in context.

03

Travel advisors and group leaders

For advisors with a qualified private group and a clear interest in clay, glaze, firing, collecting or material culture.

WHAT IS NOT CONFIRMED YET

A meaningful craft visit depends on a real host saying yes.

We separate research possibilities from confirmed inclusions. A name on a wish list is not yet access, and a workshop is not automatically suitable for every group.

01

No invented access

Named artists, private studios, factory floors, collections and institutional visits are never presented as confirmed before the host accepts the purpose, date and group.

02

No guaranteed masterclass

Teaching format, language, tools, materials, firing and finished-work collection depend on the practitioner and production calendar.

03

Shipping is a separate scope

Packing, export, customs, insurance and international shipment of purchased or made work are not assumed; they require separate specialist confirmation.

04

The leader keeps subject authority

YINYU provides local research, interpretation and operations. Curatorial, academic or technical instruction remains with the buyer’s leader unless a suitable specialist is separately confirmed.

A USEFUL CERAMICS BRIEF

The right starting point is a material question, not a list of famous names.

GOOD FIT
  • A private or considered small group with a defined ceramics, pottery or material-culture objective
  • A buyer who values research, translation, realistic pacing and confirmed working relationships
  • A programme that can balance specialist field time with comfortable private travel
NOT THE RIGHT FIT
  • A lowest-cost shopping circuit built around commission stops
  • A brief that requires guaranteed access to a named artist, studio or institution before confirmation
  • A wholesale sourcing or international shipping request without a separately agreed professional scope

BEFORE THE CLAY DRIES

Practical answers for ceramics programme buyers.

Can you arrange a ceramics-focused journey in China?

Yes. We can research and operate a private ceramics or pottery programme around the group’s objective, dates and participant profile, subject to the relevant hosts and access being confirmed.

Can you include Jingdezhen?

Yes, Jingdezhen can be considered as part of the route. Specific studios, artists, factories, museums or workshops are included only after availability and access conditions are confirmed.

Can participants make pottery during the journey?

Potentially. The format, group size, teaching language, materials, drying, firing and collection arrangements must be agreed with a suitable host before the activity is confirmed.

Do you provide NET rates and white-label delivery?

Yes. For qualified travel advisors and tour operators, we can quote NET B2B ground rates and work white-label when commercial and guest-facing boundaries are agreed in advance.

Can you ship finished pieces internationally?

Not as a standard inclusion. Packing, customs, insurance and export requirements vary, so any shipping scope must be researched and confirmed separately.
